Paying your rent

This year, we thought we’d do our bit for the environment by not sending out statements to everyone automatically. Instead, if you’d like us to send you one, just let us know.

You can call us on 0800 587 2325 or you can email us on contact@sovereign.org.uk to receive your copy – either by email or post, if you prefer.

We use the rent and service charges we receive to provide services and carry out improvements to your home and estate. That's why it’s important you keep your payments up to date.

Please don’t forget, your rent needs to be paid in advance. This means you should be paying your rent at the start of each week you’re in your home, not the end.

If you pay fortnightly or monthly, you should be paying at the start of these periods. You can download a copy of our rent payment calendar for reference.

Not paying in advance yet, or struggling to pay your rent? Please contact us as soon as possible. We can set up a plan to get you paying your rent in advance and give you advice if you’re worried about your rent.

There is also lots of advice about managing your money and dealing with debt on our advice and support pages.

If you want help getting to grips with your finance, download our free guide: Managing your money [pdf / 1011KB].

How can I pay my rent and service charge?

You can:

  • Pay securely online through MySovereign
  • Pay over the phone any time by calling our Connect centre. Select ‘2’ for Housing, then ‘1’ to make a payment. You’ll need your PIN. If you don’t have this, please ask one of our Connect team.

  • Pay by text*. Register at www.allpayments.net/textpay then each time you want to make a payment, text the amount you want to pay to 81025.
  • Pay at any Post Office by cash, cheque or debit card.
  • Use your rent payment card* to pay at any outlet that displays the Pay Point sign.
  • Post a cheque to our Basingstoke office (residents who live in Hampshire) or Newbury office (residents in all other regions). Please make cheques payable to Sovereign Housing Association Limited and include your tenancy reference number on the back.
If you need help with managing your money or claiming welfare benefits, our Tenancy support team can help.

*You will need a rent payment card for these methods of payment. If you don't have one, you can request one from your local housing team or contact us.

Please note that it may take up to two working days for payments to show on your rent account.

If you receive benefits or are on a low income, you may be entitled to help with your rent. For more information, contact the Housing Benefit team at your local council.
