More than 200 people living near the Nelson Road play park joined in the fun on Saturday 18 August to enjoy a fabulous free family day in the sunshine.
Organised by the Nelson Road Play Park Group – a group of residents living near the park – the event was designed to bring the whole community together to make the most of their communal space.
Children enjoyed face painting, circus skills fun, petting ponies, arts and crafts activities and more.
The group formed two years ago with the support of Sovereign, with the aim of smartening up the local playground and helping people in the area to feel safe and happy. Some visitors to the event commented that they hadn’t even realised the park was there.
Promoting their purpose
Becky Haydock, Community Engagement Officer for Sovereign, said: “I’ve been working with the group for two years, helping them to get started and apply for funding to achieve their aim of making this area more family friendly and appealing. Today’s event showed how far they’ve come and how well they are doing at promoting their purpose.
“If other residents in the area are keen to join the group, or have ideas about how their homes and communities within Newport or Ryde could be improved, they can get in touch with me to find out more, on email@example.com or 0300 777 7837.”
