Staying warm is good for you
A cold home can have a significant impact on your health – help keep yourself well during winter by staying warm.
A warm home can help prevent colds, flu or more serious health conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, pneumonia and depression.
If you have reduced mobility, are 65 or over, or have a health condition such as heart or lung disease, ideally heat your home to at least 18C.
It's a good idea to keep your bedroom at this temperature all night if you can. During the day you may prefer your living room to be slightly warmer. Always make sure you wear enough clothes to stay warm.
Storage heaters – how to get the best out of them
Storage heaters are one of the most affordable electric ways of heating your home.
They are designed to heat up at night when electricity is cheaper and then release the heat gradually during the day. Here are a few helpful tips and a short video to help you get the best out of your storage heaters:
- Keep the grills on your storage heaters closed at night to save as much heat as possible.
- When you want to release more heat, open the grills and adjust them to suit your needs.
- Remember that if you can use your immersion switch for extra hot water this uses more electricity and will increase your electricity bills.
